Secrets of my Hollywood Life

Okay, so I'll admit I bought this for students in my classroom b/c it was sooooo pretty AND it was suggested for fans of Meg Cabot's books, or Ann Brashareare's Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I wasn't sure if it was as negative as the 'Clique' books, but I knew it couldn't be any worse. The good news is, they're gobbling it up, BUT it does border on self centered teen affliction, OMG era we seem to be stuck in right now. My question is this, Is it better to get kids to read, or is it better that they read this?

  1. This book is really good, and although they talk about designer clothes, money, and the main character is a soap opera star, a lot of the characters are realistic and have at least one redeeming quality. Its got some kind of funny parts to it too.

  3. This book was a vacation for me from more deep, challenging books. I think so many girls read these books because we are used to these types of books that are directed towards girls, so we think that means we should read them sense they are "girl books". I think that now that I am getting older I might want to steer clear of this types of books because, in my opinion, the stories are over done, the voice and dialogue a bit shallow, and they're a little too easy. I actually want books to be challenging and different. This one's just another pretty book in the clique book crowd.

  4. I think that it's better for kids to read things that they want to read... like I would rather kids read things that they think are fun and interesting to them...I wouldn't say it's better to read this just to read it, but this is better than a majority of books... just thinking I mean I've never read this book before. I would say it's better for kids to read what they want... not this (whatever this is)

  5. honestly, i think its better for kids/teens to read interesting books that they can either relate to, connect with, or just over all enjoy! if a kid is reading a book that they really don't like or grasp, then what's the point in reading it? it will probably just discourage them to try more books.

  6. uhm, This is not a clique book. But I really like the thoughts and how the books perspective is. It's really neat, and keeps you wanting to read them. I've read the first two, and I really got into them.

  9. I have never read them, but if it had a more exciting cover I might. Something like ninjas versus martians, or something like that.

  10. If you like the child call it series then we highly reccomend the book called,"One Child" by Torey L. Hayden. It is a great book. Most think that it is better than the child called it series. If you still have to read a nonfiction book then read it. It is a fast read. And the best part is, is that it is worth 12 points!

  11. If you have ever read the Child Called It series then you should definately read the book One Child by Torey L. Hayden. It is about a 6 year old girl Sheila, her dad is an alcoholic, her mom left her on a highway, and she has no one to turn to. She doesn't talk and has never cried. Then she gets placed in this school and her life turns around. This book is so touching you will be like o my gosh i can't believe how a Sheila went through that.
